Rowland Heights β Chuan Shan Jia , Wonβt Be Going Back π
Last month, I went with a friend for lunch and thought it was great β good prices, nice decor, decent service. We even talked about pre-made food β my friend said as long as it tastes good, itβs fine, and I agreed. Today, we ordered a completely different set of dishes to test consistency β and almost everything was a letdown.ππ Sago Pudding Taken straight from the fridge β the sago was frozen together. Tea Panna Cotta The bowl looked big, but the bottom was thin β tiny portion, average taste.ππ Ice Jelly Good amount of toppings, taste was fine. Pickled Pepper Frog Legs ( Not flavorful, few frog pieces, all chopped up small. The pickled peppers and bamboo shoots tasted like they came straight from a pre-packaged bag. Mapo Tofu To avoid other misses, I purposely ordered this thinking itβs hard to mess up β but it was clearly a pre-made sauce pack. Green Pepper Boiled Blood & Tripe Small portion, 2/3 of it was bean sprouts, no aroma when served.ππ Scallion-Fragrant Stir-Fried Liver & Kidney βStir-friedβ should be removed from the name β low heat, gamey smell, not good.ππ Steamed Pork Belly with Preserved Veggies Tiny portion, just a few slices of meat β definitely pre-made. The preserved veggies had no fragrance β bad. Spicy Chicken Forgot to take a pic today, using last monthβs photo β actually fresh-made!β€οΈπ The last dish to arrive, tasted good β aromatic chili and Sichuan pepper, chicken edges crispy and not oily. We left annoyed and bought three desserts across the street for $9 total. At Chuan Shan Jia, each dessert was $10 for 1/3 of the portion we got outside. Unless I hear they changed chefs, I wonβt return.ππ Three of us left full but unsatisfied. Service was attentive β water refills, quick responses β but felt like the servers mightβve been microwaving in the back. Last time: ~$120 for three (pre-tip). This time: ~$210 (pre-tip). #IrvineLife #IrvineEats #SoCalFood #CaliforniaLife #LAEats #UCI #SoCalLiving π₯’
