Sacramento • Locke 🏮

Feel like Sac is even hotter than Africa 😅 Had to break out my Tanzanian sun protection before it hits 40°C! 🏛️ California State Capitol Park: Half the park was under renovation, and the museum was closed on weekends. Not much to see right now. 🚧 🏡 Stanford Mansion: Former home of Stanford University’s founder. The garden is gorgeous — saw lots of couples taking wedding photos! You can only enter with the free hourly tour, and no photos allowed inside. ⛲👰 🚂 Old Sacramento State Historic Park: Seems like most tourists come for the Railroad Museum. The station exhibit has several historic trains — reminded me a bit of the Liberty State Park Railway Museum in Jersey City. The whole area has that classic American downtown + Gold Rush vibe. Wanted to explore more, but $3/hr parking said nope 🫠 🏰 Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park: The starting point of the California Gold Rush! Not a huge park, but packed with things to see and read. Can finish in about an hour. Too bad there were no staff in the rooms to share more history. 🪙 🧧 Locke Historic District: The last remaining rural Chinese town in the US, established in 1915. Stopped by on the way back to the South Bay. Only one or two streets to wander, but super fascinating. The village is largely preserved as it was in the early 20th century, with mini-museums like a hotel, Chinese school, and gambling hall — but they’re only open Fri–Sun. The Dai Loy Museum has old gaming tables and equipment. The second floor is closed off 🫢 (a lot of Locke’s history you gotta look up online). Not sure if it’s because the town feels partly abandoned, but there’s a kinda eerie vibe walking through… heard there might be some paranormal activity around 👻 #BayAreaLife #Sacramento #GoldRushHistory #ChineseAmericanHistory #DayTrip #NorCal #TravelCA #HiddenGems #HistoricalWalk #LockeCalifornia
