Salt Lake City Ski Trip|A New Yorker's Take on SLC Chinese Food 🏔️

Spent over a week skiing in SLC and tried most of the well-reviewed spots. NYC Chinese food is next-level — let’s see if Salt Lake City holds any surprises! ▪️ Eiko Cafe SLC ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Cuisine: Sichuan / homestyle The only restaurant we went to twice in SLC! Really solid — most dishes compete with good NYC Sichuan spots. ✅ Must-order: Braised pork with tofu knots, sour & spicy shredded potatoes, chicken clay pot 👌 Okay: Hand-torn cabbage, stir-fried beef (good but a bit salty) ▪️ Happy Lamb Hot Pot 💢💢💢 Cuisine: All-you-can-eat hot pot Pretty average — spicy broth was bland, tomato might be better. Cheap though (~$30 pp). Meat was fresh, but seafood/options limited. Skip if you’re from NY/NJ. ▪️ Tang Huo Gong Fu ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Cuisine: Malatang / dry pot / skewers Tried mala mix, dry pot, and fried skewers. Mala mix was tasty, dry pot was just okay, not super authentic. Honey-glazed pork skewers were yummy! Great variety — even had items Happy Lamb didn’t, like beef tripe. 🉑 ▪️ L&P Bakery Cafe ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Cuisine: Dim sum / clay pot rice Called 30 mins ahead to preorder clay pot rice with cured meats. Huge portion — lasted two meals for two. Had crispy rice at the bottom but not super crunchy. Meat flavor didn’t soak into the rice well. Eggplant & string beans were sweet & sour — edible but weird. Didn’t try their dim sum since we were stuffed. ▪️ Chinese Taste ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Cuisine: American-style Chinese / classics Found in Chinatown — mostly caters to American tastes, but two dishes we ordered were decent! Affordable (~$15 pp). ✅ Cumin lamb was tender and tasty. Dry pot cauliflower was cooked with Lao Gan Ma — not my style but flavorful. ▪️ Honeymee Dessert ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Cuisine: Desserts (like Mango Mango in NY) Mango pomelo sago was good. Durian crepe was okay — wrapper a bit sweet, not enough durian inside. ▪️ Chicha San Chen ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ No lines here! Slow-cooked taro king milk tea with less ice & sugar — delicious! ▪️ 85°C Bakery Cafe ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ College favorite! Taro bun and purple sweet potato bun were not too sweet, generous filling. Mochi egg tart was a win! #SaltLakeCity #SLCEats #SLCFood #SLCChinese #SLCSkiing #ChineseFoodLover #SLCChinatown
