San Antonio | Luscious Dumplings

I’d heard this place was an American-style Chinese dumpling spot and wasn’t particularly eager to try it — until my American colleague chose it for their birthday lunch 🎉. Turns out, it’s perfectly tailored to the local palate! The décor is simple and the vibe is lively, like a classic casual Chinese eatery. We went at noon, and it was already busy — by the time we left, there was a line forming outside! 🍚 Chicken Fried Rice – A classic American-style fried rice with well-separated grains. Pretty good! 🥬 Dry-Fried String Beans – Nice seasoning, but a bit too crisp for my taste — could’ve been fried longer for more aroma. Still, my colleagues loved it! 🐖 Fried Pork Tenderloin – Surprisingly delicious! It looked dark, but the outside was crispy and fragrant, while the inside stayed tender. Had a cumin-like barbecue flavor — very tasty! 🥟 Pork Dumplings – These were great! Personally, I liked them much better than Mian’s dumplings — Mian’s filling is too dense, like meatballs. These had just the right wrapper thickness, flavorful filling, and a juicy bite. ✅ Recommended! 🥢 Xiao Long Bao / Soup Dumplings – My favorite of the meal! Thin skin, plenty of broth, well-seasoned, fresh meat — even better than Duck & Dumplings’ version! ✅ Highly recommended! 🥯 Char Siu Bao (BBQ Pork Buns) – Soft and fluffy bun, but the filling was just okay — a bit salty. Decent but not amazing. 🦐 Shrimp Dumplings – A bit fishy… not my favorite. Not as good as Golden Wok’s. ❌ Not recommended. 🐰 Little Rabbit Custard Buns – Soft, chewy, with sweet and fragrant custard inside. Super cute and perfect for kids! 👍 Moderately recommended. Finally, the birthday cake was a cookie cake ordered from somewhere else — super sweet 🍪, but my colleague loved it.
