San Antonio Riverwalk Travel & Food Guide

The Riverwalk looks completely different between day and night! 🌅🌙 You can explore Mexican craft shops near the theater during the day, then take a boat tour to admire the evening lights 🚤✨. The path is mostly cobblestone with bridges and steps, so comfortable shoes are a must 👟. Dress in layers for changing weather. Note: Some unhoused individuals rest along the river at night, so avoid secluded areas. Street photographers may offer free photos 📸—you'll get one complimentary print, with paid options like 1 for $18 or 2 for $24. You can just take the free one! Mexican bands sometimes ask diners along the river if they’d like to request a song 🎶—price wasn’t mentioned. Street parking is limited; garage rates range $20–40, and even hotel guests usually don’t get free parking. 🍽️ Restaurants We Tried on the Riverwalk: Casa Rio – The oldest restaurant on the Riverwalk, famous for its colorful rainbow umbrellas 🌈📸. No reservations—expect up to 1 hour wait during peak times. ✅ $20–30 per person for classic Mexican fare. Their chicken tacos were juicy and delicious, and the margaritas were great 🍹. Worth it if the wait is under 20 minutes! Boudro’s – A good alternative if Casa Rio’s line is too long. ⚠️ The Republic of Texas Restaurant – Big disappointment 😞. Food and drinks were subpar, and our meal was interrupted by a stranger asking odd questions and requesting we buy her a drink… not recommended! Domingo Restaurant – We went for a weekday lunch. ✅ $30–40 per person for lighter Mexican dishes. ✅ Nice atmosphere, great for chatting 💬. ✅ Street corn was a highlight 🌽! ⚠️ Tuna tostada had a crispy shell but average avocado. ⚠️ If sitting outside, watch for leaves falling into your drink 🍃. 🍸 Afterward, head to Esquire Tavern nearby—cozy, quiet, with comfy couches and strong cocktails. Try the “Fist Fight” if you like bold drinks 🥊🍸. Prost – German cuisine, $30–40 per person. ✅ Live music on Fridays 🎤🎵. ✅ Pretzels and sauerkraut were delicious 🥨! ✅ Sweet cocktails available (though a bit pricey—comes with a souvenir glass 🥂). Four Brothers – Colleagues highly recommended it 😋. Fun vibe: staff sometimes put giant paper hats on guests and write funny (slightly cheeky) messages on them—can draw a crowd! 🎩😄 #SanAntonio #SanAntonioFood #RiverwalkSanAntonio #TexasFoodie
