Seal Island
Seal Island is a rocky island located in the Hout Bay area of Cape Town, renowned for its large colony of seals. The seals here are scientifically named Arctocephalus pusillus, also known as the Cape fur seal, and are endemic to southern Africa. To visit Seal Island, you need to take a boat from Hout Bay Marina. The boat trip takes about 15 - 20 minutes. On the boat, you can get a close-up view of the seals as they play in the water or on the rocks. During the summer, you might even see newborn seal pups. 📅Recommended Time to Visit: The seals can be seen all year round, but the summer months (December to February) are the best time to see the newborn seal pups. 🕒Duration of the Visit: 2 hours 🎫Boat Trip Cost: 90 Rand 📝Tips: You are not allowed to land on the island. You can only view the seals from the boat. It is recommended to bring a telephoto lens for better photos. The boat trip is not very long, but if you are prone to seasickness, it is advisable to take seasickness medication in advance. If you encounter seals on the shore, avoid taking photos indiscriminately, as there might be people who will charge you for it. #SouthAfricaTravel #HiddenGems #ScenicBeautyinTravel #WheretoGoonVacation #TravelingtoBroadenYourHorizons #AroundtheWorld
