Seattle | Failed Lake-to-Lake SUP Attempt
📍 Sammamish River Slough This summer has been too busy, so I couldn’t complete the Jones Island Sea Kayaking trip. As a compromise, I planned to do the Lake-to-Lake SUP before summer ended. 🚣 What is Lake-to-Lake SUP/Kayaking? As shown in Figure 5, it’s a water activity starting from the Lake Sammamish River and paddling all the way to Lake Washington. The full route is about 13-14 miles, taking at least 5+ hours of paddling, plus round-trip driving time—essentially a full-day adventure. 🚣 How to Plan You’ll need at least 2 SUVs since it’s a point-to-point route. Park both cars at the endpoint, leave one there, and drive together to the starting point in the other SUV. Start: 📍Marymoor Park End: 📍Kenmore Boat Launch ⚠️ Important Notes The initial section after leaving Marymoor Park has extremely shallow water, often causing grounding. You may need to remove the fin or get into the water to carry the board/kayak through these areas. During this season, the water is filled with large, fast-swimming salmon. They dart around and under your board (a heads-up for those with a fear of fish!). The entire channel is narrow, and the water is full of algae, which easily tangles with the fin and slows you down. Regularly check and clear any algae stuck to the fin. Beyond the initial section, the river is calm and windless, but the water is not very clean. You’ll see waterbird feathers and occasionally dead salmon floating on the surface. #SeattleSUP #KayakingFail #LakeToLake #SeattleOutdoors #PaddleAdventure
