Seattle | Taking a Stroll to the Glacier
The Big Four Ice Caves Trail, a brief 2.4-mile trail, can be completed in about 1 hour for an out-and-back walk. The trail surface is flat, with no snow and minimal ice (as of November 24 at noon), and I wore regular hiking shoes without crampons or trekking poles, but you need to be careful to avoid slipping. 🥾❄️ The winter forest is silver, surrounded by mountains in the distance, silent and serene. Big Four is the lowest glacier by elevation in the 49 states outside of Alaska. The ice caves at the base of the north wall are formed by melting snow, waterfalls on cliffs, and wind, and they remain there year-round thanks to the mountain’s continuous shade. 🏔️💦 ⚠️ Never enter the ice caves or climb on top of them! ⚠️ #Seattle #USA #SeattleLife #SeattleSurroundings #Glacier #Hiking #Outdoors #OutdoorHiking #HikingTrailRecommendations
