Seattle Anacortes Whale Watching
đ The peak season for whale watching in Seattle is from July to September. We caught the tail end of the season, and the experience was quite enjoyableâeven better than our whale watching trip in Alaska, haha! Of course, the weather played a big role in this. đ„°We chose Outer Island Expeditions for an "Orca only" tour. There was a discount on Groupon, and after taxes, it came to $130 per person. The Groupon system can be glitchy late at night, so if the voucher doesnât work, try again during the day. đ·For photography, youâll need a lens with a focal length of 200mm or higher. You can rent one online through Lens Rental or visit Glazerâs Camera Rental in person. We rented a Sony 200â600mm G OSS FE lens for $45 for two days, which was a great deal. đWhale watching feels more tiring than bird photography because you never know when the whales will breach. Telephoto lenses are heavy, and itâs not easy to set up a tripod on the boat. My arms were sore from holding the lensâit turned into a real workout! đOrcas donât breach as frequently; if you want to see whales leaping out of the water, humpback whales might be a better choice. The tour experience with this company was excellent. We departed at 3 PM and returned around 7 PM. The boat was small but had several knowledgeable guides, and the music played onboard was greatâcreating a wonderful atmosphere. #SeattleWhaleWatching #Orcas #AnacortesWhaleWatching #SanJuanIslands#Seattle
