After seeing overpriced (and poorly reviewed) group tours on TripAdvisor—many including the notorious Playa Blanca—we opted to rent a car for just $40/day and go solo! Rental & Road Conditions Alamo Rent-a-Car at the airport was smooth 🏁 Staff spoke great English Car was basic (no CarPlay) but automatic 🚙 City driving = easy 🛣️ WARNING: Roads deteriorate near oil refineries/power plants ⚠️ Avoid night driving here! Scam Alert: Fake "road workers" block Puente Barú Bridge demanding money 🚧 DO NOT open windows or pay! Follow local cars closely—they’ll back off eventually. Also: Motorcyclists may tailgate you to Playa Blanca (hard pass! 🏖️❌). Ignore them! Bird Park Visit Parking: 10,000 COP (~$2.50) 💳 Buy ticket + parking together at entrance Keep receipt for exit! Park Highlights: 2+ hours of exploring 🕑 Up-close bird encounters 🦜 Shows at 11:30 AM & 3:30 PM (PM = less crowded!) 🎪 Tips: Mosquito repellent = MUST 🦟 Pack snacks—only 2 drink stands inside 🥤 No signal → Uber not reliable here 📵 Final Verdict Way better (and cheaper!) than tours—just stay alert on the road! #BirdWatching #ColombiaTravel #RoadTrip #Cartagena #TravelHacks
