Sharing My Experience at Robataya Oton’s Sukiyaki in San Diego 😊
Today, I’d like to share my experience at a Japanese restaurant in San Diego—Robataya Oton 🍲! It’s a small and cozy place specializing in sukiyaki and sushi, with a warm Japanese atmosphere, perfect for hanging out with friends or family. Just a note: the restaurant is quite compact, so it’s best to make a reservation in advance 📅. Inside, there are both traditional tables where you take off your shoes and sushi bar seating where you can watch the chefs prepare sushi 🍣. Let’s start with the highlights! The sukiyaki here is very authentic, with a sweet and savory broth and high-quality beef 😋. We ordered two servings (minimum order), each for $40, which felt just right for most people. However, if you’re a big meat lover, you might want to add extra beef—an additional serving costs $20, which is quite reasonable 💰. Besides the sukiyaki, the soft-shell crab is highly recommended! It might be the best soft-shell crab I’ve had in San Diego 🦀—crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and full of flavor. I’ve also heard their Black Cod is delicious, so I’ll definitely try it next time! Of course, there were a few downsides. The sukiyaki took quite a while to arrive, and we waited for a long time before eating 😅. When we ordered extra beef, we had to wait again—almost felt like they were slaughtering a cow just for us… Also, while the beef tongue was well-seasoned, it was quite tough and a bit hard to chew 🐮. Another unexpected thing was that a group of Japanese customers nearby were playing mahjong, which got a bit noisy and might disturb the dining atmosphere 🀄. Overall, Robataya Oton is a Japanese restaurant worth trying! The food is authentic, especially the sukiyaki and soft-shell crab, but be prepared to be patient ⏳.
