Shoo Loong Kan Hot Pot in Berlin, Germany
🔥 As a hot pot enthusiast, I couldn't wait to try the Shoo Loong Kan Hot Pot in Berlin! Here’s my dining experience: ✔️ First, about the food: We ordered three plates of meat (two lamb, one beef), pork meatballs, duck blood, tofu skin, tonghao greens, enoki mushrooms, two bowls of ice powder, and a triple combo platter of goose intestines, tripe, and duck gizzard. Overall, the ingredients tasted pretty similar to those in China—nothing extraordinary, but nothing bad either. However, the ice powder was quite disappointing. It was just a simple mix of raisins and not-so-tasty brown sugar syrup. Not recommended! 🙅🏻♂️ As for the dipping sauces, there were sesame paste and peanut sauce, but they were really not great. Only those who prefer the oil-based dipping sauce would enjoy it. We chose the tomato and spicy double pot. The tomato pot was just okay, but for a Chongqing-style hot pot, the spicy pot is where the flavor lies! ✔️ Next, about the price: Two of us spent a total of €116. Personally, I think it’s a bit expensive compared to the quality and portion sizes. It’s not cheap in Berlin. However, we did order quite a lot, and the price was acceptable considering we left full. ❗️ But let me rant about the drinks: They were both expensive and not tasty. A 200ml bottle of Fanta was €3.20, and a 400ml Coke was €4.90. What’s worse, they didn’t even taste good! The flavors were very weak compared to the local versions, and there was no joy in drinking a carbonated beverage. 😵💫 We also tried a strawberry iced tea, which was terrible—just some diluted juice with no hint of strawberries! In short, the drinks were a big miss. Stick to water! ✔️ Finally, about the service and ambiance: Before going, I read on Xiaohongshu that the service might not be great, but actually, it was quite good! The staff were attentive, whether it was refilling the hot pot or guiding us. The restaurant’s decor was also nice, giving us a sense of being back in China with its very Chinese vibe. However, the ventilation was really poor! 🙅🏻♂️ The spicy smoke from the hot pot just lingered, and the restaurant felt very stuffy and hot. My dining partner and I were constantly blowing our noses and using a lot of tissues! This has never happened in any other hot pot restaurant in Europe! I hope the management can improve their ventilation system. ✔️ Overall: Shoo Loong Kan in Berlin does a decent job of replicating the flavors of Chinese hot pot, but the poor ventilation really detracts from the experience. It’s just average overall. I’ve attached the bill at the end. 🔈 One more thing: Make a reservation! The seats are packed, so definitely book ahead!
