Skopje 🇲🇰 My First Heatstroke in Europe
I arrived in Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia 🇲🇰 👋 What interests me most about the Balkan Peninsula are its coastal areas, so I didn’t have high expectations for the various capitals. But traveling from the west coast to the east coast meant passing through the capitals of North Macedonia and Bulgaria. Since I was passing through anyway, I decided to explore both cities, allocating just one day each for a city walk. Having lived and traveled in Europe for so long, I never imagined I’d one day suffer heatstroke here— yet I somehow managed to achieve it in Skopje. So, the key takeaway from this travel guide: ⚠️ If you visit the inland parts of the Balkan Peninsula in summer, PLEASE! TAKE! HEAT! PRECAUTIONS! Go out in the early morning or evening, and hide indoors at noon! The Skopje city walk route isn’t long— the attractions are very concentrated along a roughly 2km straight line. 2-3 hours are enough. Here’s my suggested route: 📍 Macedonia Square (Маcedonian: Плоштад Македонија) 📍 Monument to Alexander III of Macedonia (statue in the square) 📍 Stone Bridge (Камен мост) 📍 Fountain "Olympia—Mother of Alexander III of Macedonia" 📍 Monument to Philip II of Macedonia 📍 Skopje Fortress (Скопско Кале) 📍 Old Bazaar (Стара чаршија) #Globetrotting #LaviniaTravels #TravelEurope #NorthMacedonia #Skopje
