So Full You Can’t Move in New Orleans! 🍖🤤
On this second trip to New Orleans, I focused on more local spots and tried some “non-typical” regional dishes. One restaurant absolutely stood out: Toups Meatery. It’s close to City Park and Bayou St. John (highly recommend both — beautiful, free, and stunning at sunset 🌅, see last photo). It’s also right by a streetcar stop, so easy to reach from downtown. As the name suggests, the specialty is meat, meat, and more meat — every dish was a delicious surprise. Portions are HUGE... We recklessly ordered three mains and two appetizers for three people and were stunned when the food arrived. We ended up taking half of it home. Appetizers: 🍗 Fried Turkey Neck — OMG, so good! Imagine a giant, crispy-on-the-outside, tender-inside roasted chicken neck. Addictive and perfect with drinks. 🍘 Boudin Balls — Not like French boudin; it’s a local dish: fried rice and minced meat balls served with tangy mustard sauce — refreshing and not greasy. Mains: 🐑 Braised Lamb Neck — So tender it practically melted. Served with spätzle (German egg noodles) — incredibly flavorful. 🦆 Smoked Duck — A massive half duck with smoky, cherry sauce, and toasted pumpkin seeds — an amazing blend of flavors. 🐖 Thick-Cut Pork Chop — The least surprising of the three, but still impressive. The chop was wider than my face and incredibly juicy. My advice: For N people, order N-1 mains plus a few appetizers to share. Seriously, highly recommended — insanely delicious. Just bring extra stomachs! 😋 #NewOrleans #NolaFood #NewOrleansEats #ToupsMeatery #MeatLovers #FoodComa #LocalEats
