I really wanted to like this place. The reviews were mixed but the photos looked great and food sounded amazing. We arrived at 5pm, there was only 1 table occupied outside and a few locals at the bar..this should have been a red flag right then that no one was there for dinner. We ordered a few apps, the turkey necks were amazing but sadly overshadowed but 2 long black hairs I found (while eating 🤢). The cornbread seemed homemade but very dry and sweet, felt more like cake. The boudin balls were terrible..not sure how they got them to taste sour unless the meat was old. The chiver mouse looked great but tasted like old iron..my boyfriend eats almost anything and he sent this back. He said it tasted like very old blood. I got the chefs recommended dish of seafood couvillon..kind of like a red sauce gumbo is how it was explained. It came with crab fat rice which I was so excited to try but was very underwhelmed. The dish itself tasted ok but the shrimp it was served with were old. 1 large shrimp has come out of the shell and was squishy? Like turned to absolute mush when I picked it up. The rice tasted wrong..I’m not sure how to explain it other than when seafood gets old and it tastes really fishy..it was like that..old fishy crab. My boyfriend got the pork chop. This thing was MASSIVE. A few pounds if I had to guess..the photos don’t do it justice. We were both shocked at the size and how shortly it arrived…another red flag. He are the outside rib and said it tasted good but the texture was concerning. Being cautious he cut it down the middle and thank god he did..it was completely raw..and I mean raw..not rare but raw. We sent it back and asked for our check. The restaurant itself is ok, cute outside but smells very odd near the back. Like I said almost no one inside, even after we arrived and ate no one else came in. Our server was nice but not apologetic on the quality of our food. Honestly she acted like it was a regular thing, like she wasn’t supposed at all. There was a plaque on the wall that read “Readers digest 2022 Best in Town”…it didn’t list what it was for or even the restaurant. After leaving I think they may have made it themselves. Would never try it again

Toups' Meatery is a unique restaurant with a cajun-ish spin on things, although it appears to be more southern dishes with some twists on them to me. The environment is one which welcomes any occasion for dining. This restaurant has been on my bucketlist for a few months, as the exterior stood out to me with its social outdoor seating filled with plants, and my my quest for another great burger. I ordered the crispy turkey necks and the coolinary week special which included a glass of wine, beef sticks for the appetizer, gulf fish for the main course, and vanilla pana cotta for dessert. The crispy turkey necks were fried like nothing I've ever had. I love turkey necks and this was a great spin on them. I'd omit the peanuts, though. The beef sticks were a cross between the snack beef sticks and sausage. The Dijon mustard, cabbage, and pickles, paired well with it when eaten together. The gulf fish with squash was salty and seemed to miss something with it. The vanilla pana cotta was simple and sweet. My friend purchased the wagyu steak with crispy potatoes and a side of cornbread. I tried her steak and potatoes and felt it was among the top two best steaks I've consumed. The potatoes were among the best styled with a steak I've had before. She equally enjoyed it. We both agreed that though the cornbread was sweetened, thank goodness, it was really dry, unfortunately. I also ordered a to-go plate of the confit chicken thighs for my mom. She stated the greens had a strong vinegar flavor. Possible from the mustard. I feel that the food is a bit expensive. Then again, I suppose it is fair due to the selection of meats served. Though I was only wowed by the steak. The staff was pretty engaged and extremely busy. But they made it work. Toups' is one of the restaurants I'd suggest to try once. But not one I can recommend and see myself visiting several times. Although my main reason for visiting was the burger, which I'll be back for.

Been dying to try this place since watching top chef. On a recent visit we finally got the chance and it lived up to our expectations. We had the crab claws, lamb neck, the gulf seafood couvillion, ta ta bouille and the doberge cake. The crab claws were very good, they could have used a little more flavor but overall easy to eat (no cracking or peeling) the slight grilled pineapple on the bottom had a spicy edge to it. I thought you got a good size portion for the price. The lamb neck was delicious! Disclaimer, you must love lamb. It had a strong lamb flavor. It was so tender and perfectly cooked. It was served over flawlessly cooked bucatini. I thought this was a best pasta to sever with this dish. A nice thick round noodle that really sucked up the sauce. It was exactly what I had in mind when I read the menu. The couvillion was spicy, but in a flavorful way. It did give you a little sweat while eating it. The fish was a black drum and it was moist and tender. The shrimp were large and well seasoned. This dish could have been swimming in sauce but it wasn't. It was the right amount for this dish. The star of the show was the crab fat rice. OMG! So awesome. I could have eaten a whole plate of just that. The bouille and doberge were our dessert and they both were unique and tasty. My two cents: get the meatery board as a meal or to share with maybe a small plate. It looked fantastic. Also it would have been great to have some bread to sop up the gravy from both our dishes. Side note: the wait staff was very eclectic which I think added to the charm of the place. Our waitress was very helpful. Sometimes I think people take eclectic for rudeness. This place is funky, with funky food. I think the wait staff added to the fun of the place.

Been going here for 11 years. Service is always top notch. Food is good as usual. We also had the double cut porkchop and dirty rice that we totally forgot to take a photo of. It is our go to everytime we come here. Now, this go around it wasn't perfect like all the other time. Still good enough. As far as atmosphere. I think it time for the restaurant to get a new renovation. We been coming since 2012 so that 11 years and we come here at least 10-12 times every single year. As busy and popular they had gotten over the years. The wear and tear truly shows into the restaurant itself. It's definitely got the run down hole in wall bar vibe after all those years of great business. For the price they charge, it should feel like a higher class vibe that was always there for many years until recently. Example: paint of the walls are coming off in many different spots, tables might be wiped down, but if you take your napkin and wipe against the edge your napkin will be black. The floors just so dirty like any old not well kept up bar. Yes it a restaurant /bar. Over the years it just turned into the feel of a older bar. Back then you get that rustic upper scale vibe lunch or dinner. They could charge as high as they want and peoole will come for the vibe back then. As years go by everything gotten run down and needs to be updated. I really hope they take this review in consideration as the food is always top notch. Was once our family and friends who use to come here as favorite spot. We will come back if it sadly our last choice of pick as in New Orleans restaurants are opening left to right to meet the consumers need for a nice dinner. The older restaurants that are really good and are known that exist has actually taken time to renovate as needed to keep up with today time. Vibe and atmosphere is very important...
