South of France: Bormes-les-Mimosas, the Mimosa Town
🇫🇷 Bormes-les-Mimosas is a charming medieval town in the South of France, located in the Var department of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. The department is numbered 83. 🏞️ Nestled at an altitude of about 200 meters, Bormes-les-Mimosas is built on a hillside along the Mediterranean coast, at the southernmost tip of the Massif des Maures. Facing south between the sea and the hills, it is considered one of the most beautiful spots in the Var department. 💛 In the southeast of France, along the Mediterranean coast in departments 06 and 83, the mimosa season runs from late January to early March, with various events celebrating the mimosa flower. 💛 Bormes-les-Mimosas is the starting point of the Mimosa Route, La Route du Mimosa. 💛 "Mimosa" is the French word for "mimosa flower," pronounced "mimosa." The town was renamed Bormes-les-Mimosas on February 15, 1968. Every February, the town hosts the Mimosa Flower Parade, Corso fleuri du Mimosa, immersing visitors in a sea of flowers. 🍇 Bormes-les-Mimosas is also a must-visit on the Provence Wine Route, La Route des Vins de Provence. ⛪ Historical landmarks to explore in the town include: - La chapelle Saint-François de Paule - Le Château des Seigneurs de Fos - L’Église Saint-Trophyme - La chapelle Notre-Dame de Constance 🏰 Along the Mediterranean coast within the commune of Bormes-les-Mimosas stands the summer residence of the French President: Fort de Brégançon. Perched atop a 35-meter rock, the fort was originally separated from the mainland by a strait. General de Gaulle ordered the construction of an artificial breakwater connecting the fortress to the coast. This breakwater also features a flat area used as a parking lot and a helicopter landing pad. 🎫 Visits to Fort de Brégançon can be booked through the tourism center website. Guided tours last about 2 hours and 30 minutes, cost 12 euros per person, and are limited to 20 people per group. The fort was closed for maintenance in the summer of 2024 but reopened in mid-September. #FrenchTravel #SouthFranceProvence
