Southern California's Only World Heritage Site⭐️
Los Angeles' Mayan-Style Architectural Gem 🏠 Traveling from London to Los Angeles, if you’re looking for a "cultured" experience, visiting modern architecture won’t disappoint you (though The Getty was a bit underwhelming). 🌸 Southern California’s only World Heritage Site, Hollyhock House , is a must-see. Designed by legendary architect Frank Lloyd Wright and completed in 1921, it was built for oil heiress Aline Barnsdall. It’s Wright’s first building in Los Angeles, blending Mayan, Eastern, and his iconic Prairie School style. 🏛 The entire house feels like a stone Mayan temple. The wall patterns are inspired by the Hollyhock flower, Aline’s favorite. The living room features Eastern elements, including candleholders with the Chinese character for "double happiness" and Japanese-style murals. There was supposed to be a shallow pool in front of the geometric fireplace to represent the elements of fire, earth, air, and water (though it never worked out). Perhaps because Wright was also working on the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo at the time, the house is decorated with many Japanese artworks, including a Guanyin statue in the hallway and ukiyo-e prints in the study. Hollyhock House 💰 $7 admission 👟 Please wear flat shoes for your visit. #LosAngeles #HiddenGems #ArchitecturalDesign #LosAngelesTravel #TravelTips #LosAngelesTourism #PhotographyInspiration #ArchitecturalAesthetics #WorldHeritage
