Spring in Richmond: Art, Coffee & Good Vibes ☕️🎨

My first badminton tournament of 2024 was held at VCU, which opened the door to many fun day trips in Richmond! My perfect day trip formula: art + badminton + coffee 🏸🖼️☕ ⭐️ Virginia Museum of Fine Arts @ 200 N Arthur Ashe Blvd, Richmond, VA 23220 A great place to enjoy both outdoor sculptures and indoor exhibitions. So many chubby little pig statues — no idea why 😂 — they look oddly… crispy and tender? The sculpture collection is modest but includes early works by Nick Cave and Diana Al-Hadid. ⚰️ Edgar Allan Poe House & Museum @ 203 N Amity St, Baltimore, MD 21223 A charming little museum full of details about Poe’s life. The spring blooms in the backyard contrast beautifully with his dark, melancholic aesthetic. The black cat in the yard is adorable 🐈⬛, and raven motifs are everywhere. Fun fact: Poe was also quite athletic — who knows, maybe he’d have been great at badminton! ☕️ Ironclad Coffee Roasters & Baking Co. @ 1805 E Grace St, Richmond, VA 23223 Very industrial-Richmond vibe: brick walls, metal pipes, and a busy weekend crowd. The smell of fresh coffee and baked goods is heavenly. A hot latte really hit the spot on a chilly early spring day. ☕️ Blanchard's Coffee Broad Street @ 3121 W Broad St, Richmond, VA 23230 Love the interior — great for meetups or solo work. They have a wide selection of beans to choose from! ☕️ The Urban Farmhouse Market & Café (Shockoe Slip) @ 1217 E Cary St, Richmond, VA 23219 A perfect pitstop while exploring the area. Solid coffee, very local feel, and… they also sell wine 😉 Wandering around Richmond in early spring reminded me of a line from a classical Chinese poem: “Though I have nothing in Jiangnan to give, I offer you a branch of spring.” 🌸 Even an old industrial city can be beautiful and full of charm. #Richmond #Coffee #EdgarAllanPoe #VMFA #DMV
