Sri Lanka | Kandy

The ancient mountain city of Kandy, once the capital of Sri Lanka and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is sure to be a stop on your itinerary—and it’s well worth spending a few extra days exploring. 🏞️ About the Attractions Temple of the Tooth Relic 🌟🌟🌟 Housing the tooth relic of Buddha Shakyamuni, this temple is a sacred site for Buddhists worldwide. Beyond the relic itself, the temple complex is rich with treasures: the World Buddhist Museum offers insights into global Buddhist traditions, and there’s even an elephant specimen that tells stories of Sri Lanka’s deep connection with these majestic creatures. Wander through its halls, and you’ll be struck by the blend of spiritual serenity and historical grandeur—intricate carvings, golden stupas, and the soft murmur of prayers creating an atmosphere that lingers in your memory.😊 Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 I didn’t have high expectations at first, but from the moment I stepped through the gates, I was captivated and amazed. It’s stunningly beautiful and perfect for photography—every step reveals a new scene worth capturing. With lush lawns, towering palm trees, and exotic blooms that pop against the greenery, it’s a paradise for nature lovers. Don’t miss the orchid house, where vibrant petals unfurl like works of art, or the serene lily ponds that mirror the sky. If you have the time, bring a picnic and linger—this is a place that begs to be savored. Ambuluwawa Tower 🌟🌟🌟🌟 Officially known as Ambuluwawa, this tower sits about 28 kilometers from Kandy, along the road to Nuwara Eliya. At the foot of the hill, you’ll need to switch to a local tuk-tuk (1,500 rupees round-trip) or hike up—though the walk is steep, the views along the way (misty valleys, dense forests) make it worthwhile. The main tower’s spiral design is a feat of engineering, but the smaller tower to its left offers the best vantage point for panoramic photos of the structure. Nearby, a charming French-style garden with colorful blooms and winding paths provides a peaceful spot to rest. The café, while not known for its coffee, boasts vistas that make up for it—sip a drink as you gaze out over rolling hills and distant peaks.💕 🏨 Queen's Hotel This nearly 200-year-old hotel stands directly opposite the Temple of the Tooth Relic, its colonial-era architecture exuding old-world charm. The interiors are a delight for vintage lovers: polished wooden floors, antique furniture, and chandeliers that cast a warm glow. It’s incredibly photogenic, with every corner feeling like a step back in time. That said, comfort-wise, it falls short of modern hotels—soundproofing is poor, and some amenities show their age. If a good night’s sleep is your 😂priority, this might not be the best choice, but for history buffs and photography enthusiasts, it’s a must-stay. 📷 About Photography Spots Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens—captures the garden’s lush diversity, from sun-dappled pathways to vibrant flower beds. Ambuluwawa Tower—features the tower against sweeping mountain backdrops, with shots of the spiral staircase and French garden. Kandy city center—shows the colorful chaos of local life, from bustling markets to colonial buildings. Queen‘s Hotel—highlights the hotel’s vintage elegance, from its grand lobby to cozy corners with views of the temple.💕 #SriLankaTravel #SriLanka #Kandy #TempleOfTheToothRelic #PeradeniyaGardens #AmbuluwawaTower
