Sri Lanka | Mirissa Whale Watching 🐳 Guide

A pleasant surprise in Sri Lanka was encountering orcas and fin whales in Mirissa, with dolphins 🐬 swimming alongside in groups.🐻 🙊🙊Being up close to nature in the ocean, you feel as free as they are, and every moment is heart-stirring. 🏖️🏖️ Some tips for whale watching in Mirissa: 🌟 On the way from Galle to Mirissa, you can see stilt fishermen. 🐟 You can take photos with them for 4000 rupees. There’s also a fish market with all kinds of freshly caught seafood. Don’t miss the local fruit market—definitely try the pineapple 🍍. 🌟 The night before staying in Mirissa, don’t miss the sunset 🌄 in the coconut grove. It’s a short 10-minute climb up a small hill. 🌟 Mirissa has many restaurants, including several Chinese ones. 😼 But the highly recommended option is the beachfront barbecue bars, where you can get seafood 🦞 cooked to order, listen to music 🎵, watch the sea, and have a drink—it’s incredibly relaxing. 🌟🌟 Choosing a whale-watching 🐳 boat: A. Large boats 🚢: Prices vary by size, around 350-450 RMB per person, including breakfast. They depart early at 5:00. 🌥️🌥️ The higher hull offers better viewing angles, but many people get seasick.🏖️🏖️ B. Charter a yacht ⛵️: We chartered a yacht this time, at 100 USD per person for a group of six. No need to get up early—we left the hotel at 7:00, and breakfast was prepared for everyone. 🌇 Though the budget was higher, the yacht has advantages: it’s fast, avoids seasickness even when cutting through waves, and is easy to maneuver, making it great for chasing whales.⛅ ☀️The captain quickly steered us closer several times, allowing us to get much nearer to dolphins and whales 🐳 than on large boats. The trip lasts about 5 hours. 🌈🌈 If you want to stay longer at the end, you can tip to extend the time.🏫 🤩🤩🌟 The four major whale-watching spots: No. 1 Mirissa: In southern Sri Lanka, the most popular.🚘 From November to April, main species are blue whales and sperm whales. No diving is allowed for any vessels.✨✨ No. 2 Trincomalee: In eastern Sri Lanka, as famous as Mirissa. From March to October, there are many sperm whales, which are easy to spot. Diving is allowed for observation.🎈🎈 💕💕No. 3 Hikkaduwa: South of Colombo, relative ly less known. Whale watching is possible year-round, with fewer boats. You can see blue whales, sperm whales, and dolphins.🐳 🐳No. 4 Kalpitiya: North of Colombo. From November to April, infrastructure is poor. Mainly known for blue whales.🐳 #LesserKnownTravelDestinations #Travel #SriLanka #MirissaWhaleWatching #MirissaBeach #Diving #Orca #Vacation #MyTravelDiary
