Stepping into a World of Ice and Snow
Snow Hiking in Vancouver is Breathtaking In Vancouver, besides skiing, snow hiking is also a fascinating experience. Hiking on Mt. Seymour in North Vancouver on Sunday was a journey into a winter wonderland, with snow covering the entire trail. ✅ Mt. Seymour has three main peaks: Pump Peak offers a 360-degree view, with one side overlooking the entire Greater Vancouver area and the sea, and the other side showcasing majestic snow-capped mountains. Most people turn back here. Tim Jones Peak has less foot traffic and is a great spot to capture the first peak and the surrounding mountains. Mount Seymour offers views of the northern mountains. We met descending hikers who mentioned that a section of the trail is narrow and slippery, and not recommended for ascent. We only made it to the first and second peaks. 🔸 To the first peak: 6.9 km, with an elevation gain of 457 m (AllTrails) 🔸 Our journey to the first and second peaks, as recorded by our phone: 10.26 km, elevation gain of 657 m, walking time of 3h 14m 🔸 The trailhead is at the end of the parking lot. A few dozen meters in, the left fork leads to the beginner-friendly Dog Mountain. We took the right path that goes straight up. 🔸 The entire trail is uphill, with the last kilometer to the first peak and the second peak being quite steep. The return is the same route, with some steep sections that require careful descent. 🔸 The view of the city and the sea is beautiful on the way down, with several viewpoints perfect for watching the sunset. 🔸 The trail is covered in snow, and the path has been trodden by previous hikers, making it easy to follow. Ice cleats are recommended for the current conditions; we saw a few people with snowshoes who seemed less comfortable. ✅ Equipment suggestions: Waterproof jacket and pants - you’ll sweat walking, but it’s essential to keep warm when you stop at the peak. Waterproof hiking boots, Gaiters (to keep snow out of your shoes) Ice cleats/spikes, and snowshoes if there’s fresh, soft snow Hiking poles Sunglasses, gloves, hat ‼️ Check the weather!! On a clear day, you can see the entire Greater Vancouver area! Thanks to the weather wizard @Kite for picking such a great day for us 🌹 ‼️ From December 12th, a parking pass is required. The parking lot will be monitored. Remember to book a day-use pass for Mount Seymour Provincial Park on the BC Parks website in advance. ✅ AllTrails route: Pump Peak #OutdoorPotatoSnowSeason #WinterHikingPlan #HikingInSnow #SnowHiking #WinterOutdoorActivities #WinterHiking #VancouverHiking #VancouverWinterGetaways #Seymour #Vancouver
