📘 Study Abroad Diary: Fort Santiago in Manila, Philippines 🌏✨
The last stop of today’s city walk was Fort Santiago, located in the historic walled city of Intramuros. The name "Santiago" was given by the Spanish. First, let’s clarify a concept: the patron saint 👼. What is a patron saint? It’s roughly equivalent to a guardian angel or protector—a specific title used in some Christian denominations. It’s also a beautiful hope: patron saints are often entrusted with protecting a certain region, profession, or group of people. For example: 🏴 England’s patron saint is St. George 🏴 Scotland’s is St. Andrew 🇮🇪 Ireland’s are St. Patrick and St. Brigid 🔨 Carpenters’ patron saint is St. Joseph ⚓ Sailors’ patron saints are St. Nicholas and St. Michael Today, the mottled walls, ruins, bullet holes, and the eerie underground tunnels and air-raid shelters all tell the stories of the past 🕳️🔍. History has passed, yet it seems never truly gone. It reminds me of that famous quote: "The Qin people had no time to mourn themselves, so later generations mourned them. If later generations mourn them but do not learn from them, they will only make future generations mourn them again." 📜💭 #StudyAbroad #Philippines #LifeRecording #DailyVlog #Travel #CityWalk #FortSantiago #History #Manila
