Stumbled upon a delicious and cute izakaya in Seattle
It was actually a well-planned visit! I’ve been wanting to try Kamonegi for a long time. I followed the owner on Instagram and she’s quite the quirky chef. On the eve of heading into the mountains, I made sure to squeeze in a visit on a Thursday night when it wasn’t too busy, and snagged the last two walk-in bar seats.💕 Kamonegi’s menu is quite different from your average izakaya, mainly consisting of appetizers, tempura, and soba, with a twist on each dish.💕 ♥️♥️♥️ Must-tries/favorites: ▪️ Foie gras tofu – I thought it would be high-fat tofu, but it was actually liver from geese/ducks, with a super smooth texture like a savory tofu pudding. ▪️ Duck meatballs – A bit heavy but great with drinks.💕 ▪️ Foie gras butter corn – The rich, caramelized butter corn was super umami and salty.💕 ▪️ Soba – There were so many options. I ordered a sukiyaki soba and a cold salmon roe soba. The salmon roe soba was loaded with roe and super fresh – highly recommended. The sukiyaki was a bit rich, maybe better suited for winter.💕 ▪️ House natto – Kamonegi’s own fermented natto, usually only in soba, but I ordered a side. It’s lightly fermented, almost like the original soybean flavor.💕 ♥️♥️♥️ Also good to try: ▪️ Kabochan tempura – Salty and sweet, great with drinks, but more of a fusion feel. ▪️ Uni tempura – I thought it would be sea urchin wrapped in shiso and fried, but they just fried the shiso and put sea urchin on top – a bit lazy. ▪️ Sukiyaki soba💕 The servers were also adorable, and the sake they recommended was all delicious. Next door is the owner’s sake specialty store, but the drink menu isn’t shared. We didn’t continue the party since we had to climb a mountain the next day. Looking forward to the next time!💕 #SeattleFood #Seattle #FoodDiary #SeattleLife #Kamonegi #SeattleJapaneseCuisine
