Summer in π¨π Lucerne is so beautiful!
π Lion Monument (Lowendenkmal) This beloved relief is located in a small park (Glacier Park) in Lucerne. The rock relief is carved into a natural rock wall, depicting a dying lion with sorrow and pain, lying helplessly on the ground. An arrow is deeply embedded in the lion's back. The lion's face shows agony, its front paw clutching a shield (engraved with the fleur-de-lis symbolizing the French royal family), and another shield and spear lie on the ground to the left. π¦ The Lion Monument was built to commemorate the 786 Swiss mercenaries who died in the French Revolution on August 10, 1792, while protecting the safety of the royal family in the Tuileries Palace in Paris. The Swiss mercenaries remained loyal to the French royal family until the very end. This monument was called "the most mournful and moving piece of stone in the world" by American writer Mark Twain. Above the statue, the Latin inscription "HELVETIORUM FIDEI AC VIRTUTI" means "To the loyalty and bravery of the Swiss." π Chapel Bridge / Water Tower Flower Bridge (KapellbrΓΌcke) The Chapel Bridge is one of Lucerne's most famous landmarks and the oldest covered wooden bridge in Europe, built in 1333. The bridge is decorated with 17th-century painted panels depicting the history and legends of Lucerne. The octagonal water tower beside the bridge, once a prison and fortress, is now a symbol of Lucerne. Unfortunately, it was destroyed by fire in 1993 and has been rebuilt. The surviving paintings still show signs of smoke damage. π₯ π Old Town Lucerne's Old Town is well-preserved, filled with medieval charm.
