Tōdai-ji
Nara's Todai-ji: One of the Seven Great Temples of Nanto 🌿 🍃🌺 Todai-ji, originally known as Horyu-ji (Flying Bird Temple), was renamed Todai-ji after the capital was moved to Heijo-kyo and the temple was relocated to its current site. 🏛️ When Todai-ji was first built, roof tiles were made by tile experts from Baekje. 🌇🌟 Some of these original tiles are still used on the roofs of the main hall and the meditation hall. 🍃🌺On the roofs of the Paradise Hall and the meditation hall, you can see tiles that have turned black and brown over time. These are the oldest roof tiles in Japan. 🌟 🌇🌟 #TempleTravel #HistoricalSites #BeautyOfAncientArchitecture 🌇🌟
