TΕdai-ji
Nara's Todai-ji: One of the Seven Great Temples of Nanto πΏ ππΊ Todai-ji, originally known as Horyu-ji (Flying Bird Temple), was renamed Todai-ji after the capital was moved to Heijo-kyo and the temple was relocated to its current site. ποΈ When Todai-ji was first built, roof tiles were made by tile experts from Baekje. ππ Some of these original tiles are still used on the roofs of the main hall and the meditation hall. ππΊOn the roofs of the Paradise Hall and the meditation hall, you can see tiles that have turned black and brown over time. These are the oldest roof tiles in Japan. π ππ #TempleTravel #HistoricalSites #BeautyOfAncientArchitecture ππ
