Tatsu—The Best Sushi I've Had in Dallas
👍I usually hesitate to say something is the best, but I'll conservatively say that Tatsu serves the best sushi I've had in Dallas. To be more precise, it's even better than any sushi I've had in Chicago. Tatsu is tucked away in a very industrial-style building, and its exterior really does resemble The Row. From the moment you walk in and receive the sake menu, you can tell how much thought has gone into the details. The milk-washed autumn punch was incredibly smooth. However, the waiter's emphasis before the meal on not flipping the sushi to dip it in soy sauce made me wonder what kind of customers they usually have... Let's talk about the dishes that left a strong impression: 🍣The sakes in pictures one and two look simple without any fancy decorations or pairings, but they are just solidly delicious. Picture one is eggplant cooked with shiitake mushrooms, so good that I finished all the broth. Picture two is red snapper with caviar. I was initially skeptical about the caviar, thinking it might be a gimmick to appeal to Americans, but the slight saltiness of the caviar and the subtle sweetness of the red snapper turned out to be a surprisingly good combination. 🐙The white amberjack in picture three has firm meat. Thinking back, most of the amberjack I've had in Chicago were red or yellow, and it's rare to find white amberjack. 🐟I always thought I'd have this year's mackerel in New York, but I never expected to enjoy it in Dallas. The mackerel in picture five has a slight hint of offal, which is truly the perfect taste of autumn. #omakase #sushi #japanesecuisine #japanesefoodexploration #dallaslife #dallasfood
