🚗 Texas Christmas 6-Day Road Trip Notes Day 04|A Day in Austin
Since we heard that several of Austin’s Michelin‑starred Texas BBQ spots require arriving around 9 AM and waiting in line for about an hour ⏰🚶♂️ — and our time in Austin was limited — we decided to skip those restaurants. For breakfast, we went to Another Broken Egg Cafe, an American brunch spot 🍳. We ordered the Corned Beef & Brussels Hash and the Lobster & Brie Omelette. It was delicious 😋 — probably some of the best American brunch I’ve had. Highly recommended! 👍 After breakfast, we headed to the Blanton Museum of Art 🖼️. Some of the exhibits were really cool, though the venue itself isn’t huge — you can cover it in about two hours ⏳. After the museum, you can walk to the Texas State Capitol across the street 🏛️. They offer free guided tours, but since the guides don’t use speakers and crowds can be large, it’s sometimes hard to hear if you’re not standing close. Still, you can learn a lot, and the building itself is beautiful — great for photos 📸. After touring the Capitol, we ate at Rudy's "Country Store" and Bar‑B‑Q, another Texas BBQ joint 🍖. We ordered brisket (moist cut), prime rib, baby back ribs, and jalapeño sausage. Personally, I thought the meat here was better than the BBQ from my previous post. Austin has lots of BBQ spots though — there are plenty of comparisons on Xiaohongshu for reference. Later, we drove back to the University of Texas at Austin campus for a quick stroll 🏫. Some of the buildings are quite handsome, and it’s close to the museum and Capitol — if we weren’t in a rush to eat, we could have easily visited the campus right after those two spots. In the evening, we checked out Mount Bonnell 🌄. Parking was a bit tricky; the view is nice, especially at sunset, but it’s not a must‑see if you’re pressed for time. After taking a few photos, we left Austin and drove back to Houston 🚗💨. #TexasTravelGuide #AustinFood #TexasBBQ #AustinTravel #TexasTravel #UTAustin #TravelTheWorld #AustinFoodie #Austin #TexasFood
