Thanksgiving | Savannah Short Road Trip
Thanksgiving | Savannah Short Road Trip "Laid-Back" Travel Diary š¦ Procrastination is the worst (okay fine, I just didnāt want to write my final paperāweāve all been there š) First, letās talk about transportation! It takes about 3.5 hours to drive from Athens to Savannah. The traffic was amazing during Thanksgivingābasically no jams, and the smooth ride put me in a great mood šļ½ šØ Accommodation: Downtown Core I stayed right in the city center this time, and itās highly recommended if you donāt have a car! You can walk to all the old buildings, and the main attractions are close to each otherāstrolling around slowly is so relaxingļ½ But! Having a car backfired: the hotel parking fee was crazy expensive! Later, I found out the parking garage next door was free for Thanksgiving! Felt like such a fool š¤ š½ļø Food: Checking Out Century-Old Restaurants 1ļøā£ Collins Quarter Itās a pretty popular spot, but the food was just ādecent brunchāānothing super impressive š. A friend said the Forsyth Park location is better, but I didnāt get to try it, so thatās a little regretļ½ 2ļøā£ Crystal Beer Parlor The front desk lady from the trolley tour recommended this place, and it didnāt disappoint! The grits were creamy and flavorful, and the crab soup was so delicious I wanted to lick the bowlābut itās easy to get full. Unfortunately, I was driving and had taken medicine, so I couldnāt try their signature beer. Such a bummer š» 3ļøā£ Leopoldās Ice Cream Basically a must-visit century-old ice cream shop for anyone in Savannah, but I have to rant: the ātuffiā flavor is so average! ! Highly recommend banana and coffee chipsāeveryone in our group loved themļ½ Go for the child size; the portion is just right, and you wonāt feel too full after š„² 4ļøā£ E-tang A friend said this is the āonly edible Chinese restaurantā in Savannah, and it lived up to the hype! The soup dumplings are made freshābite into them and the soup bursts out, so tasty š; the other dishes are good too, with huge portions and great value. Go earlyāwhen itās full during peak hours, itās the most Chinese people Iāve seen in Savannah, which instantly made me feel at homeļ½ š Other Maybe Useful Tips 1ļøā£ Trolley Tour I planned to take it, but I walked around and saw all the main attractions on the first day š. Recommend buying tickets online in advance and starting in the morningātickets are valid for the whole day, and youāll see the trolleys everywhere. You can get on and off whenever you want. But note: in winter, thereās no glass on the trolley, so itās pretty cold when the wind blows. Wear more layers! 2ļøā£ Ghost Tour Didnāt go at all, haha! My friend and I both thought it probably wouldnāt be interestingāway better to hang out in the park and soak up the sunļ½ 3ļøā£ Classic Check-In Spots Visited Forsyth Park and the Forrest Gump filming location, but the iconic bench is long gone. Just took photos to capture the vibeļ½ 4ļøā£ River Street Super worth a walk! During the day, you can enjoy the river view and shop; at night, the lights come on and itās so atmospheric. There are also dinner cruises (but my friend and I werenāt interested, so we skipped it) š 5ļøā£ Churches Savannahās churches are really beautiful! Walking inside instantly calms you downāsolemn and healing. Definitely recommend a visitļ½ āŖ 6ļøā£ Candle Shop Thereās a candle shop downtown that smells amazing! I still think about that scent after coming backāregret not buying one š 7ļøā£ Tip Reminder True to its reputation as a tourist and retirement city, tips here usually start at 20%. Remember to calculate that when paying the bill! I didnāt go to too many places this time, but Savannahās overall vibe is ālaid-backāāeven just switching places with friends to walk in the park and sunbathe felt like recharging my energy š. Who knows the joy of a ālazy-styleā trip better than us! #Savannah#ThanksgivingTravel#RoadTrip#TravelGuide#DayTri#DailyLife
