Review - 3 years ago This is a charming restaurant in historic downtown Savannah. It’s good a great vibe with a bright open space bustling with action on a late Sunday morning. It was just what we were looking for on our second time in the city. Our food was absolutely delicious and well worth the 40 minute wait to get inside.
The menu is not a large one and my husband is a simple eater with eggs and bacon being his thing. He was hesitant when he received his breakfast sandwich looking a little too fancy but he loved it eating it all. You can tell right away the bun was fresh. It had a relish inside, sweet and savory, that brought the flavors together - well he even ate the salad, so I would say the dish was a win with him. The burger was delicious. The bun makes the burger even though the meat patty was juicy and flavorful. We decided to order the French toast to share and flagged down the waiter. It was so delicious, I forgot to take a picture before digging in. The bread….. the bread they make is delicious! This had to be the best French toast I have ever eaten. I tend to not order this dish in places because of how hard the bread can be but in CQ, it’s exceptional both in flavor and tenderness.
We ordered some drinks too. The Bloody Mary was good, but I was not impressed with the Bellini (peach). It was on the warmer side. I was also not impressed with the service. It was busy in the morning and our server walked around a lot, but seemed to be preoccupied in thought not work. He never brought me my coffee, or cleared the table as we finished, or asked if we basically needed anything which I think would have taken care of our requests. It’s not a deal breaker though, we would definitely go again and you shouldn’t even hesitate to eat here it’s amazing...
Read moreMy wife and I were in Savannah last week and tried Collins Quarter. From now on, Collins Quarter will be a must stop on any future visit to Savannah. The place is that good.
Let's start with the location and space. On the corner of Bull and Oglethorpe, the location is damn near perfect. It is in the middle of everything and easily accessible to anyone staying in the historic district or near the river. The inside is beautifully set up and inviting, although a bit noisy for my liking. There is also outside sidewalk seating that allows you to really enjoy the vibe of Savannah as you dine. I strongly recommend sitting outside if the weather permits.
The service was excellent and, as one who makes his living in the restaurant/bar business, the quality of service is an absolute deal breaker. Nick was our server, and I would hire that dude anywhere anytime. Nick was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. He exuded an easy-going good vibe that enhanced our experience. Nick also gave us good info on other places in Savannah for us to try and those proved to be good suggestions as well. Every place should have a Nick. Thank you, brother.
Last but not least, let's talk food because the food was definitely the star of the show. The coffee (I had a Latte) was excellent too. I was feeling adventurous and tried their Swine Time Beni (Brioche French Toast, Tomato, Pulled Pork, Bacon, Hollandaise Sauce and Fresno Chilis). I'll admit I was a bit nervous as I feared the dish might be too ambitious and trying to do too much, but it definitely worked. Each of the individual components were well done and worked well together. The Hollandaise, in particular, was excellent. The eggs were expertly cooked and the bacon was superb (crisp without being dried out or overcooked, it elevated the dish without overpowering it). I would definitely order this again. That being said, the best bite award went to the Breakfast Sandwich my wife ordered, proving once again that simple dishes done well with quality ingredients is always a recipe for success. The pork shoulder was super tasty and well cooked. The pork worked beautifully with the egg, cheese and brioche bun. The arugula added a nice fresh element and peppery taste. Finally, the homemade bacon jam was addictively good. I have considered applying to work at Collins Quarter or engaging in corporate espionage just to acquire the recipe. The Breakfast Sandwich was so good, we stopped by and ordered one to-go for the drive out of town.
I hope the above helped and you try Collins Quarter on your next trip to Savannah. I also hope you enjoy it as much as we did. Say hi to Nick for us and tell him we will...
Read moreSent in search of lavender-infused coffee beverages by a Savannah tour guide the night before, we ended up at The Collins Quarter for breakfast one morning and our experience couldn't have been more perfect.
Let's start with Syndey...he's the first person we encountered. Not only was he standing in front of the restaurant in a host capacity, not only did he seat us, but he was our server and he took care of us in one of the most kind and most attentive ways we've experienced at a restaurant. He took his work seriously, every detail of it, and we felt really well taken care of by him.
Everything we ate and drank also matched this level of service. I had the Bananas Foster French Toast...When I ordered it, Sydney just gave a nod assuring me I had made an excellent choice.
I got a side of hash browns...perhaps the only slight disappointment here was that these were pre-formed hashbrowns patties in shape and taste as opposed to custom-made shredded potatoes. They were okay.
My wife loved her Avo Smash and was delighted that they had gluten-free toast to serve it on. This was one of the only places that we ate in a 2-week vacation throughout 3 southern cities that had vegetarian, gluten-free, and caffeine-free options, all of which my wife took advantage of.
In the caffeine-free department, she ordered their signature Lavender Spiced Mocha (made with oat milk) which she loved. It was beautiful to look at too. (I mean if you can get past my wife's eyes...)
I also wanted to try something with lavender so they brought me a drip coffee with a side of lavender syrup to add as much as I'd like. I don't know that the lavender was my favorite thing ever for this but the coffee was good and strong (which isn't always a given at a breakfast place.)
There are plenty of other vegetarian items to try and they label them as such with a helpful encircled V on the menu. They do the same for gluten-free items. So if you're a vegetarian and/or gluten-free, you definitely won't feel like a second-class citizen here.
Collins Quarter gave us a great experience and you'd do well to eat here too...especially if you're lucky enough to have Sydney taking...
