The amount of appetizer is really abundant

📍 1696 Douglas St, Victoria, BC V8W 2G6 Located in Victoria Downtown, the restaurant looks spacious from the outside, though there aren’t too many tables. It’s mostly known for its BBQ, but the smoke ventilation is just average—when it’s busy, the place gets quite smoky 😅. There aren’t many servers, but we visited on a weekday evening when it was quiet, so the service was decent. The appetizers were surprisingly generous: seven or eight small plates, mostly pickled sides. The cold fish cake salad was tasty, but the sweet potato noodles in the mixed vegetable dish were a bit stiffer than those in properly made stir-fried japchae. ✅ Gamjatang for 2 (2-person Spine & Potato Soup) 💰49 Absolutely delicious—way better than their BBQ, and great value for money! It’s a huge pot, and it’s already fully cooked when it arrives. The 2-person portion can be kept warm on the small table stove over low heat, so you don’t have to rush—no worrying about it getting cold even if you eat slowly đŸ„˜. The soup is perfectly seasoned: balanced salty and spicy, with that authentic Korean flavor. There are about six to seven large ribs, all with plenty of meat. While not exactly "melt-in-your-mouth," the meat is tender enough to be flavorful—with a light nudge of chopsticks, it falls right off the bone. You can even suck the marrow from the bones, which is rich and tasty! There are also four or five large potato chunks—they need a bit more simmering after being served, otherwise they’re a bit firm and not soft enough. I was craving tofu that day, and since tofu is on the BBQ menu, I asked if we could add some. The server checked with the kitchen, and they added six pieces for an extra $3—such a nice touch! The only small downside: there was a lot of green onion on top when it arrived. I picked at it for ages and still didn’t get it all 🧅. ✅ Japchae (Stir-Fried Glass Noodles) 💰29 It doesn’t look like much when served, but the portion is surprisingly huge! We kept eating and eating, and even when we were stuffed, there was still half a plate left—it felt like it just kept going 😂. Their japchae is on the sweeter side—total comfort food for someone who likes a touch of sweetness! The sweet potato noodles are soft and glutinous, chewy but not tough. There’s plenty of minced pork, mushrooms, shredded carrots, onions, spinach, and more mixed in, plus white sesame seeds sprinkled on top—salty, sweet, fragrant, and fresh all at once. So tasty! 🍜 #Canada #CanadaFood #VancouverIsland #VancouverDayTrip #Victoria #Foodie #WeeklyFoodCheckIn #LifeSnippets #FoodTour #MyDailyLife #WhatInternationalStudentsEat #RestaurantRecommendation #HiddenGemRestaurant #GlobalFoodSquad
