The Best Meal in Colmar

A spontaneous weekend trip brought us to Colmar, without much planning for restaurants or reservations, just going with the flow. But this place was a delightful surprise we stumbled upon by chance. 🌟 The restaurant **Wistub de la Petite Venise** is located right next to the famous Little Venice in the old town of Colmar, a popular spot for photos. We actually found it after being turned away from two other places that were fully booked. Seeing the Michelin sign outside, we thought it couldn’t be bad—and it really exceeded our expectations, especially considering the limited options in Colmar, where most restaurants seem to serve the same dishes like quiche, sauerkraut, and smoked meat platters. 🍽️ **Must-Try Dishes:** 🌟🌟🌟 **Alsace-Style Beef Tenderloin Skewers** These were incredibly tender and juicy, with a perfectly seared exterior that burst with flavor. The skewers looked modest in the picture, but they were actually quite large. I couldn’t finish mine, even with the accompanying mashed potatoes. The key was the sauce—it brought back memories of red-braised beef. 🍖 🌟🌟🌟 **Roast Pork Knuckle** The skin was incredibly crispy and fragrant, and it paired perfectly with the vegetables and mustard-yogurt sauce. What stood out was the size of the knuckle and how easy it was to pull the meat apart. I’d recommend sharing this dish, as it can be a bit rich. 🍖 🌟🌟 **Grilled Escargot** These were pretty standard, with a flavor similar to what you’d find at other places. As an appetizer, they were decent, especially with some bread to soak up the sauce. Personally, I preferred the foie gras with fruit jam and bread—it was a bit pricier but much more flavorful. 🐌 **Desserts:** 🌟🌟🌟 **Frozen Christmas Cake** At first glance, it looked quite plain, almost like an old-fashioned cake from childhood. But after a heavy meal, it was the perfect palate cleanser. The cake had three layers of ice cream (strawberry, vanilla, and frozen cream) and a crispy base. It was a unique combination I hadn’t tried elsewhere, and it was definitely worth it. 🍰 🌟 **Caramel Pudding** This was quite ordinary compared to the frozen cake, feeling more like a caramel-flavored steamed egg. I wouldn’t highly recommend it. 🥧 It’s worth mentioning that the local Alsatian wines were excellent. We tried a Riesling, which had a rich floral and honey aroma. I’d highly recommend it. Personally, I preferred the Gewürztraminer, which had a strong fruity flavor and was very sweet and approachable, even for someone who usually doesn’t drink much. It paired perfectly with foie gras and cheese. 🍷 The portions at the restaurant were generous, and the staff were very honest, discouraging us from ordering too much. Two of us spent a total of €90, and it was definitely worth it. The bicycle sign outside the restaurant has also become a popular spot for photos—maybe it’s a local attraction? Highly recommended! 🚴‍♀️ #ColmarFood #Colmar #ColmarTown #ColmarDayTrip #ColmarGuide #ColmarRestaurant
