The Best Restaurant I Found on My Second Montreal Trip!
On our way back to Toronto from Quebec City, we stopped by Montreal to try Restaurant Le Canal, a must-visit Egyptian seafood spot I’d been dreaming about. Since we didn’t have a reservation and it was packed on a Saturday night, we ordered takeout and ate in the car—and oh my, it was SO GOOD that all four of us (Hainanese seafood lovers!) were screaming with joy the entire time! Even my boyfriend’s mom, who grew up in a fishing village, couldn’t stop raving about how fresh and delicious everything was. 😋 🦞 Ordering Process 1️⃣ Pick your seafood (by type and weight). 2️⃣ Choose your cooking style. 3️⃣ Wait for it to be made fresh (takes ~40 mins). We ordered: ½ lb Fried Smelts (tiny fish, extra crispy even when cold!) ½ lb Black Tiger Shrimps (HUGE, perfectly spicy, super juicy) 1 Whole Grilled Sea Bass (good but needed more seasoning) Salad + Rice (skip the dry turmeric rice) 💰 Total? Under $60! (Great value for the quality.) 👍 Highlights ✅ Black Tiger Shrimps – Crispy shells, tender meat, and just the right spice level (though only my boyfriend’s mom detected a hint of heat). ✅ Fried Smelts – Addictively crunchy with lemon squeeze. ✅ Freshness – You can taste the ocean in every bite! 👎 Lowlights ❌ Takeout took too long (they forgot to call us when ready). ❌ Dine-in chaos – Staff seemed overwhelmed. ❌ Grilled fish was lukewarm (probably amazing if eaten fresh). 📍 Restaurant Le Canal 4945 Boul.
