The German Resistance Memorial Center in Berlin
An Off-the-Beaten-Path but Must-Visit Spot When it comes to Berlin and travel, most recommendations are about Museum Island, the East and West Berlin sights, the palaces in Potsdam, and the Berlin bunkers. For those really interested in World War II, perhaps a visit to the Sachsenhausen concentration camp is also on the list.💛 I want to recommend a place that a Dutch friend told me about. It's quite secluded, but the exhibition boards are packed with information, showcasing the internal resistance movement in Nazi Germany and the lives of those who sacrificed themselves for the cause. This is the former office of Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, who attempted to assassinate Hitler. On the night the assassination attempt failed, he and his fellow conspirators were executed right here. The museum also houses an original copy of Schindler's List. I watched "Valkyrie" when I was younger, so I knew about Stauffenberg's story, but I had never heard of this memorial in Berlin, located right on the site of his former office. I was quite surprised when my Dutch friend mentioned it to me. 🕵️♂️ The museum is free, quite new, and most of the exhibition boards are in both German and English. Some multimedia interviews are only in German, but there are English videos available as well. The memorial is located in the western part of Berlin, a bit away from the usual tourist spots, but it's very easy to get to by public transport. If you're interested in biographies and the stories of those who opposed Nazi Germany, this is definitely worth a visit. 📚 #Berlin #BerlinTravel #BerlinTourism #BerlinSoloTrip #solotrip #EuropeTravel #EuropeTourism #GermanyTravel #GermanyTour
