The Grilled Eel Worth Braving the Rain and Wind For
This place has been on my list for over half a year. It’s said to be the best eel in all of Portugal, a restaurant that even locals get excited about. But since it’s a 30+ minute drive from Lisbon, it’s not super convenient, so I hadn’t gone. Today, I finally had the chance to indulge while running errands nearby. BTW, if you haven’t made a reservation in advance, be prepared to wait in a long line. We arrived around 12:30 PM, registered our name, and then went to a nearby outlet to kill time until 2 PM when it was our turn. Grilled Eel ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Different from Japanese-style grilled eel, the eel here is as thick as a finger, super succulent. Each piece is cut into 5 or 6 bites, and it’s very satisfying. There’s not much seasoning, seemingly just coarse salt, allowing the natural flavors to shine. They also offer stewed eel, fried eel, and eel rice, etc., but the portions are huge, so it’s better to go with a group to try more dishes. Ink Seafood Rice ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This main dish doesn’t have eel, but it comes with super large scallops and shrimp, with mushrooms and bell peppers as sides. It’s decently good. It’s served for two, and we couldn’t finish it, so we took it home. Dessert I won’t rate it, but it’s very sweet, so it’s up to personal taste, haha. Fun fact: the coffee cups are customized with a photo of the owners, which is super cute 😍 We also ordered half a bottle of wine, so the cost per person was around 40 euros. It’s a bit above average for a meal, but it’s worth it 👍 I’ll definitely go again. #PortugueseCuisine #GrilledEel #WhatToEatInLisbon #LisbonSurroundings #Life
