The Oldest Surviving Triumphal Arch in the World 😮✨
🏛️Triumphal arches were monumental structures built by ancient Romans to celebrate military victories, typically placed along major roads. These iconic arches featured arched designs with intricate relief sculptures. 📜👀 Today, only three remain in Rome itself: the Arch of Titus (AD 81), the Arch of Septimius Severus (AD 203), and the Arch of Constantine (AD 315). But here’s the twist 🌀: The world’s oldest surviving triumphal arch isn’t in Rome—it’s in Orange, France 🇫🇷! This town in Provence, once conquered by Julius Caesar, is home to a wealth of Roman ruins. 🙄🤷 Built during Emperor Augustus’s reign, the Orange Triumphal Arch has stood for 2,000 years! It features three arches, four Corinthian columns on each facade, and exquisite relief carvings on all sides. In 1981, it was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site alongside Orange’s ancient Roman theater and surrounding ruins. 🎭🏛️ When visiting Orange, don’t just stop at the arch—check out the Roman theater too!
