The Only Sichuan-Style Málà Pot
Back again at Lu Niang Málà Pot! Even though I’m trying to watch my weight, I just couldn’t resist the craving — this málà pot is pure comfort food for this Chengdu native 😭. 🍝 Cold Noodles: MUST ORDER! MUST! MUST! The owner told me the noodles are sweet, sour, spicy, and numbing — I knew right away they’d be authentic. Only in Chengdu do we describe flavors as “sweet-sour-spicy-numbing”! After studying in the U.S. for years, this is the closest I’ve found to the real Sichuan cold noodles I ate outside my elementary school back home — tastes like childhood 😭. If you’re sensitive to spice, don’t worry — it looks red but really isn’t too spicy. Most people can handle it! 🦆 Málà Roast Duck Pot Again, my every-time must-order! Huge portion, tender and flavorful duck. It sells out so fast — I was lucky to get the last portion that day 😂 (Later customers were told they’d have to wait 30 minutes for more — some even left and came back just for it. That’s dedication!) 🍲 Build-Your-Own Málà Pot Some of my personal favorites: Meats: Spicy tender beef, black fish slices, chicken gizzards, braised chicken feet, braised beef tendon, spicy pork tongue, fatty beef rolls. Veggies: Lettuce, seaweed, potato slices, bamboo shoots, rice cakes, hot pot noodles. 🥩 Spicy Braised Pork Trotters Last time I tried the salt & pepper duck necks and hand-shredded rabbit (highly recommend the duck necks for first-timers!). This time, pork trotters — just as delicious, loaded with crushed peanuts for extra fragrance. Love that they’re flavorful without being too oily — slightly crispy outside, tender inside. Best eaten with gloves! Living in West LA, I’m far from most Chinese restaurants — but Lu Niang is one of the few worth the one-hour drive. When a place makes you crave it this much, you know it’s the real deal 👌🏻. #LAEats #LAMustTry #LASichuanFood #LAMalaPot #LuNiangMalaPot #PasadenaChineseFood
