THE STAHL HOUSE – Case Study House #22 🏠✨
I recently visited this iconic post-WWII experimental home in Hollywood—this time with my daughter. We talked about what makes it so special: even though Los Angeles sits right on the San Andreas Fault, living on the edge of a cliff, almost touching the stars while overlooking the city and ocean... that’s the kind of extreme experience only possible with floor-to-ceiling glass. 🌃🌊 Beyond experimenting with new materials, techniques, and housing models, the Stahl House also pioneered a new way of living during the post-war baby boom era. The open-plan layout—where the living room, dining area, and kitchen flow seamlessly together—broke away from small, walled-off rooms. It redefined family life: shifting from “everyone in their own room” to “sharing one bright, connected space.” 💡🏡 This design didn’t just bring in light and a sense of openness—it made everyday interactions between family members more natural and intimate. What was once a radical idea in experimental housing has now become what we all expect from modern, comfortable living. #LosAngeles #ArchitectureLover #Modernism #CaseStudyHouse #MidCenturyModern #StahlHouse #IconicHomes #ExperimentalDesign #HollywoodHills #LALandmarks #OpenPlanLiving #DesignHistory #CaliforniaArchitecture #MustSeeLA
