The warmth and flavors of Florence are all hidden here.
Before coming to Florence, I did a lot of research on restaurants. The most impressive ones were the trattorias/osterias with their own unique styles and handwritten menus. I call them homestyle eateries. We didn't make a reservation for this place, but we were lucky to find a table. The owner asked if we could wait while they cleaned it. We waited outside and enjoyed the complimentary red wine offered to waiting guests. (I have to say, even those who don't usually drink red wine were surprised by its aftertaste. It had a light tannin content, so it wasn't astringent, and it was full of grape aroma.) After having the red wine from Tuscany, I also wanted to try the white wine, so I ordered Bianco Toscana to go with the meal. The white wine had a lighter, sweet flavor that wasn't overpowering. It paired really well with the dishes. At €7 a glass, it's definitely worth a try. Dishes: 🍅 Homemade Lasagna The homemade lasagna was amazing. The tangy tomato meat sauce blended perfectly with the cheese. The pasta had a nice chew to it but wasn't tough. The waiter, who was humming a tune, carefully divided the lasagna for us, making sure the sauce was evenly distributed. After he finished, he asked me, "See how well I divided it?" It was really charming. 🥩 Grilled Beef Filet The Italians really know how to cook meat. When the steak arrived and we cut into it, we realized it was pink inside—we hadn't been asked about the doneness and it was medium-rare by default. At first, I was a bit concerned that it might be too rare for my taste, but it was perfect. The meat was incredibly tender, like cutting through butter. It was cooked just right, not underdone in the middle. The steak was served with large porcini mushrooms, which added a delicate, earthy sweetness. It was delicious. The accompanying 🥔 Potatoes were a delightful surprise. I didn't expect much from pan-fried potatoes, but these were amazing. They were cooked in olive oil until they were soft and slightly chewy, not mushy. The sea salt brought out a natural sweetness that got better with every bite. Paired with a sip of white wine, it was pure comfort. For dessert, I chose Tiramisu . Every tiramisu has its own unique flavor. While the last one I had emphasized the sweetness of the mascarpone, this one perfectly balanced the rich creaminess with the sweet aroma of coffee liqueur. The pairing with cocoa powder was simply wonderful. ✨ A Hidden Gem : At the end of the meal, the waiter surprised us with cantuccini (also known as biscotti) and Vin Santo, a slightly sweet, slightly tart wine. The trick with this dessert is to dip the biscotti in the wine for about 5 seconds, then take a bite. The almond flavor in the biscotti becomes especially pronounced with the alcohol, creating a rich and aromatic experience. This small restaurant packs a lot of Florence's culinary essence and the warmth of Italian hospitality. It's located near the Florence Cathedral, and the average cost per person is €35-45.
