The World’s Longest Light Rail Line Is In Los Angeles, And Its New Extension Is Nearly Complete—Here’s When It Opens

Los Angeles’s massive public transportation system is undergoing numerous major overhauls, but the long-awaited A Line extension to Pomona is one of the most significant. Starting September 19th, 2025 , passengers will enjoy 4 new stops in the San Gabriel Valley. The new 9.1-mile segment comes courtesy of the ongoing Foothill Gold Line project. L.A.’s A Line is the longest light rail line in the world as of 2023, with 44 stops spanning 48.5 miles between Azusa and Long Beach. By the end of the project, the line will extend to a total of 58 miles in length. Here’s the long and short of it. A Line extension ---------------- The Foothill Gold Line project will add a total of six new stations to the A Line beyond the APU/Citrus College stop. The project’s $1.5 billion first phase will open four stations on September 19th: Glendora, San Dimas, La Verne/Fairplex, and Pomona North . The final two stations, Claremont and Montclair, will be added by 2030. This extension opens up numerous possibilities for new places to access via public transportation . Some of those destinations include Raging Waters, Glendora Village, the University of La Verne, L.A. County Fairgrounds, the Pomona Arts District, and more. Trains will come every 8 minutes during peak hours , with service available from 4am to midnight .
