Tofu Story in Boston | Delicious Korean Soft Tofu Soup

When the weather turns cold, nothing beats a warm bowl of Korean tofu soup. We usually go to Kaju Tofu House, but this time we decided to try Tofu Story instead. We arrived right at 11 AM when they opened. The place stayed quiet until around noon, when customers started trickling in. 🥢 Great Side Dishes The banchan (side dishes) were excellent, especially the kimchi. After years of eating Korean kimchi in Boston, this is by far my favorite. You can distinctly taste the fresh notes of pear and apple in it. 🍲 Tofu Soup Experience The tofu soup was flavorful and comforting. However, I don’t recommend the rice porridge option. Traditionally, stone bowls create a crispy rice crust at the bottom that turns into a delicious porridge when you add hot water. Here, they used a stainless steel bowl, so there was no rice crust at all. 👵 A Chat with the Chef I told our server that their kimchi was the best I’ve had in Boston. He passed the compliment to the chef, who then came out to chat with us. She was an elderly Korean auntie who prepares all the side dishes fresh every morning. She emphasized that she doesn’t use any MSG and has spent a long time perfecting her tofu soup recipe. She explained that many restaurants rely on oil for flavor, but she focuses on slow, careful cooking to achieve a rich yet light and healthy taste. When she cooks, she always thinks about whether her own family would enjoy the meal. Her goal is for customers to leave feeling satisfied but not thirsty—a sign of a wholesome, well-balanced meal. 💭 Final Thoughts You can really feel her dedication and care in the food. Next time I’m craving tofu soup, I’ll be back right at opening time. One small concern: the restaurant has many seats, and if she’s the only chef, it might be challenging to handle the lunch rush alone. #BostonLife #BostonEats #KoreanTofuSoup #ComfortFood #FoodWithAStory
