Travelogue and Guide to Montgomery

The main highlights of Montgomery are its Civil Rights-related museums. Three exceptional museums—each offering a unique perspective, from personal stories to broader historical narratives—present the Civil Rights Movement through high-quality interactive exhibits and films. What to Explore: ✨Rosa Parks Museum: Built to honor Rosa Parks, who refused to give up her seat to a white passenger, and the subsequent Montgomery Bus Boycott. ✨Civil Rights Memorial Center: Features interactive displays documenting key events of the Civil Rights Movement. One screen continuously scrolls through the names of movement participants, and visitors can even add their own names after filling out a form. ✨The Legacy Museum: Reflects on the roots of slavery, segregation, and systemic discrimination in the U.S., tracing back to the transatlantic slave trade and covering themes like the slave economy, the KKK, and voter suppression. ✨Dexter Avenue Baptist Church: The church where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once served, playing a pivotal role in the Civil Rights Movement. Unfortunately, we couldn’t visit due to lack of reservation. ✨The First White House of the Confederacy: The executive residence of Jefferson Davis, the only president of the Confederacy. The interior is compact yet elegant, and the elderly curator was exceptionally warm and welcoming. Where to Eat: 🥰Chris' Famous Hotdogs: A classic Montgomery spot serving hotdogs with sauerkraut and spicy sauce—flavorful, bold, and budget-friendly. The diner exudes an old-school vibe. 🥰Lorraine's Bake Shop: A hidden gem we discovered unexpectedly. This artisan bakery and café opens only three days a week, and I suspect it operates more to support the community (in an area with high commercial vacancy) than for profit. #Montgomery#Alabama#travelguide#Alabamaguide#Montgomerylife
