Turin: The Least "Italian" City ๐ฎ๐น?
Once the capital of Italy, Turin remains a developed industrial city in the north. ๐ท๏ธ City of Cars: Fiat HQ + Airbus engine manufacturing base. ๐ท๏ธ Land of Wine: Capital of Piedmont โ home to Barolo and Barbaresco wines. First impressions: spacious, clean, and grand ๐๏ธ. Very safe (except around the old train station). Few people, very few Asians. The architecture even gives off Swedish vibes! On clear days, head to the Basilica di Superga or near the airport to capture the Alps with the city ๐๏ธ๐ธ. Transport: I took a train from Milan. The main station is Porta Nuova (downtown), while Porta Susa is further out. I accidentally got off at Susa and had to walk 20 mins to the center ๐ . Must-See Spots: 1๏ธโฃ Egyptian Museum ๐บ (book online 1 day prior โ I got 10% off! First slot at 9 AM. School groups often visit on weekdays.) 2๏ธโฃ Royal Palace of Turin ๐ โ known as "Little Versailles", connected to the Cathedral. Donโt miss the Arms Gallery and the stunning Baroque staircase! Open TueโSun, tickets on-site. 3๏ธโฃ Shroud of Turin (in the Cathedral) โช โ opening hours vary. I tried twice before entering! 4๏ธโฃ Basilica di Superga for panoramic views ๐๏ธ. Near the Cathedral is the small Palatine Gate (Roman era). Cross the river to Santa Maria del Monte dei Cappuccini for another great viewpoint โ 25 mins walk from the Palace. I walked everywhere โ 60,000 steps a day ๐ถโโ๏ธ! But you can buy a 1-day transport pass (โฌ4) at stations or tobacco shops. Buses donโt accept cash. The airport shuttle is across from Porta Nuova โ runs every 15 mins, takes 45 mins. What stole my heart? The elegant arcades and shopping streets ๐๏ธ Drive-through arches ๐โจ Quirky bookstores along the streets ๐ The shy barista who blushed when he saw my Chinese face ๐โ #Turin #Juventus #HomeOfTwoClubs
