Two-Hour Wait for Authentic Hunan Food in LA—Was It Worth It? 🥢

This place is seriously popular. We arrived to a long line, with people continuously coming and waiting—ended up queueing for almost two hours. Some had traveled far just to eat here, while others looked like regulars. Feels like this spot has already made a name for itself in LA’s Hunan food scene. 🍆 Pounded Eggplant with Century Egg ($16.98)|⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ They pound it right in front of you—so satisfying to watch! The eggplant is completely tender, infused with garlic, century egg flavor, and a mild spice—super smooth and seriously rice-friendly. My favorite dish today—highly recommend! 🌶 Black Classic Stinky Tofu ($15.98)|⭐⭐⭐⭐ The outside is incredibly crispy—you get a clear crunch with every bite. Key tip: mix it well with the sauce, otherwise the flavor falls flat. Once combined, the aroma really comes through—so good! 🥩 Mei Cai Kou Rou with Buns ($19.98)|⭐⭐✨ The pork is nicely layered with fat and lean parts—balances well when eaten in a bun (though honestly, we mainly wanted the buns). Overall taste is decent but not memorable—would order again, but wouldn’t come back just for this. 🩸 Mao Xue Wang ($23.98)|⭐⭐⭐⭐ Generous portions of blood curd and other ingredients. Spice level is solid, and yes, it’s on the oily side—but for $23.98 in LA, it’s great value. Good overall bang for your buck. 🐟 Spicy Boiled Black Fish Fillets ($22.98)|⭐⭐⭐⭐ Classic Sichuan-style broth—numbing and spicy in a straightforward way. Fish texture is nice, and again, $22.98 is a fair price. 🐸 Extra Spicy Dry Pot Frog with Perilla ($35.98)|⭐⭐⭐⭐ The most intense dish of the meal. Strong perilla flavor, tender frog meat—but seriously spicy. Unlike some other cuisines, Hunan-style frog is cut into smaller pieces rather than big chunks. If you love Hunan food and perilla, go for it—though the price is on the higher side. After this meal, the two-hour wait started to make sense. Not every dish blew me away, but the overall quality is solid. If you’re craving authentic, bold Hunan flavors in LA, this is definitely one of the top options for many people! Was it worth it? I’d say yes! 😋 📍 Dong Ting Xian Address: 727 E Valley Blvd, San Gabriel, CA 91776 #LosAngeles #HunanFood #DongTingXian #LALife #LAFood #StinkyTofu #FrogDish #SpicyFish
