Utah, USA 🇺🇸 | Blue-White Salt Ponds Dot the Desert

The desert in Utah, USA, resembles the surface of Mars 🪐—and right in the middle of this arid landscape lie 23 brilliantly colored 💧 potash evaporation ponds of varying sizes. This once little-known site went viral after NASA shared an aerial photo 📸 of these striking pools. ♨ Potash Evaporation Ponds – Moab, Utah 📍 Location Along the Colorado River, about 30 km west of Moab, Utah, USA. ♨ How the Ponds Were Formed These are not natural—they’re human-made! Managed by Intrepid Potash, the largest potassium chloride producer in the U.S., these ponds cover about 1.5 square kilometers and are lined with rubber to retain salinity. Unlike other salt ponds that turn red due to algae, these pools shine in bright blue 💙 thanks to dye added to help absorb sunlight and speed up evaporation. The operation began in 1965 and is expected to continue for at least another 125 years—until the potash ore runs out. That means you have about 125 years to witness this surreal beauty! 💡 ✈ Calling All Drone Enthusiasts! ✈ This site is perfect for aerial photography! From above, you can capture the vast Colorado Plateau desert at 1,200 meters above sea level, with the Colorado River winding through 🏞️. The contrast between the extra-terrestrial-looking desert and the vibrant pools is absolutely mesmerizing. Still expanding travel guides and routes across the U.S.! ✈️ Feel free to reach out if you want to exchange tips or need customized recommendations~ 💬 #UtahTravel #DronePhotography #PotashPonds #MoabUtah #VisitUSA #ColoradoRiver #AerialView #TravelUSA #DesertLandscape #UniqueDestinations
