Vancouver | The First Meal After Landing: Heading Straight to Ma Liu
A friend recommended this Sichuan-Hunan restaurant called "Ma Liu" in Richmond. Let me share the experience! ๐ฐ Double Pepper Rabbit ๐๐๐๐ This was my first time trying rabbit meat. The texture is similar to chicken but more firm. It's chopped into small pieces with quite a few bones, so you need to pick them out while eating. We ordered it "mild spicy," but it was almost our spiciness limit! The green and red peppers aren't just for decorationโthey form a solid layer on top, vibrant in color and rich in aroma. The portion of rabbit meat is generous too, not the type that relies solely on side dishes to fill the plate. ๐ Salted Egg Yolk Eggplant ๐๐๐ This dish is fried eggplant strips, different from the salted egg yolk fried eggplant pockets I had in Calgary. The first bite was good: slightly crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. But it got a bit greasy after a few bites. The salted egg yolk coating is thin, so the sandy texture isn't very prominent. It would taste better if the coating were thicker and more flavorful! ๐ฅฉ 18-Second Quick-Fried Beef ๐๐๐๐ A signature dish here, and it was the first to arriveโlooks like it really only took 18 seconds to stir-fry โฑ๏ธ! The beef is thinly sliced but not broken, tender with a bit of chewiness. However, it's quite oilyโthe bottom of the plate is practically filled with oil, but it pairs perfectly with rice. They are very generous with the cilantro, which will make cilantro lovers very happy! ๐ Shredded Chicken Cold Noodles ๐๐๐๐ The small portion is perfect for two to share. The ratio of red oil to sesame oil is well-balancedโfragrant but not greasy. It's sprinkled with plenty of chopped green onions and crushed peanuts, adding layers of texture. After eating, your mouth feels slightly numb, but it's refreshing and smooth. We ordered quite a lot for two people and ended up taking leftovers away. Overall, the quality is a notch above Sichuan restaurants in Calgary. The first meal after landing was satisfying! Originally, we planned to go to "Pin Yi Pin" for spicy hot pot and handmade rolls, but the restaurant was closed for a week, and they stopped making the rolls long ago. I've been wanting to go back every time I visit Vancouver, but missed it again this time ๐ฅฒ. Fortunately, Ma Liu didn't disappoint, easing the regret of the missed plan. ๐ Restaurant: Myth Szechuan Cuisine ๐ Address: 8100 Ackroyd Rd #80, Richmond #VancouverFood #RichmondFood #Vancouver #VancouverLife #VancouverRestaurantReview #MaLiuVancouver #Calgary #VancouverTravel
