Visiting Ford's Theatre ๐Ÿ•‹

The Site of President Lincoln's Assassination Just a week before Trump was assassinated, I visited Ford's Theatre in DC, where President Lincoln was assassinated. I couldn't help but think about how seemingly easy it was for someone to get close enough to assassinate a president. ๐Ÿ—ก๏ธ The Assassination In April 1875, as the Civil War was drawing to a close, Lincoln's firm stance on abolition had stirred intense resentment among Southern opponents. On the evening of April 14th, the assassin, who had concealed a small firearm in his shoe, took advantage of a moment when Lincoln was watching a performance and his bodyguard was absent. He slipped into the president's box and shot Lincoln in the back of the head with a small pistol. Lincoln succumbed to his injuries the following day. ๐Ÿงฉ Travel Tips - Ford's Theatre is an extremely underrated tourist spot in Washington. A visit typically takes about 1-2 hours, and it's conveniently located near other popular DC attractions. It's definitely worth a visit! - You can reserve tickets online for a fee, but you can also get them for free on-site. Since it's not a popular destination, tickets are usually readily available. I recommend getting tickets that include museum entry and checking the times for "Museum Entry." - The theatre also hosts performances regularly, so keep an eye out if you're interested. - Additionally, across from the theatre, there's an impressive display of books in the exhibition hallโ€”thousands of books about Lincoln stacked over three floors. You can take an elevator to the top and walk down through the stacks. Nearby Attractions - Hard Rock Cafe: A great place to grab a meal. I just visited to check it out. They have some interesting memorabilia and items from famous concerts. - American Art Museum: Also a portrait museum, it stays open late. ๐Ÿ“ Ford's Theatre #SeeTheWorldWithoutFilters #DCHiddenGems #CulturalSites #dmvwhattodo #museumvisit #USAttractions #Travelogue #WashingtonDC #RecommendedSpot
