Vukovar, Croatia 🇭🇷: A Journey Through History
🌴My Viking cruise along the Danube brought me to Vukovar, Croatia—a city on the river's right bank, directly facing Serbia. Founded in the 13th century, 🎍Vukovar was once a thriving port renowned for its Baroque architecture. 💧Tragically, the 1990s war left deep scars, with many buildings damaged or destroyed. Yet the bullet-riddled water tower still stands defiantly, 💤while sleek Teslas zoom past—a striking contrast symbolizing the city's resilience and determination to rebuild. 🧳 History: Once stunning with Baroque elegance and industrial prosperity, Vukovar was reduced to rubble during the 1991 war. The 87-day siege claimed over 1,000 soldiers and 2,000 civilians—a heartbreaking chapter. 🌟 Today: Though war scars remain, Vukovar is healing. Preserved battle-damaged buildings serve as silent storytellers, while its award-winning City Museum powerfully commemorates the past. 📸 Photography: The ruins and historic sites exude a poignant, timeworn beauty. Walking these streets, you’ll feel the city’s unbreakable spirit #HistoricalJourney #Croatia #Vukovar #CityMuseum
