If you visit Vukovar, this is the place to go. Heavily damaged during the Croatian war for independence it is masterfully repaired and preserved. Next to the monument is the lobby where you can purchase tickets and souvenirs. Depending on your adventure levels and physical abilities you can climb it by stairs (cheaper ticket) or you can use the elevator (more expensive). The elevator has glass doors so prepare your phone so that you don't miss interesting shots. On the "first floor" are info panels with animated movies about the beginning of the war and operations in Vukovar. I highly recommend that you take time to watch it all. Then you should climb up to the observation deck (better than using an elevator). While climbing, you can see the extent of the damage the water tower has suffered in attacks and take more photos thru grenade holes. On top of the tower is the observation deck with amazing views on the river Danube and the town itself. You can also see ada (river island) where you can go for a swim in the mighty river (free boats taking you there from Vukovar center). Don't be surprised if you spend more time than planned when visiting the tower. Experience and views are worth...

The Vukovar Water Tower stands as a witness and reminder to the heavy war destruction, to the pain, suffering, death of the Croatian people from and around of the city Vukovar which is also nicknamed: "The City of Heroes".
The tower itself suffered heavy damage from the enemies who tried to tear it down at any cost, because with its defiant and proud attitude, Water Tower reminded them of the traditional “Croatian unity” since the Croats are well-known as very proud, defiant and stubborn people with a strong character…
Today, the holy Croatian flag flies proudly from the tower, which sends a warning to all the people, who hate Croatia and Croats, that we are still here, that we are still "unbreakable and strong" just like the tower, and if need be, that Croatians are once more ready to fight and die, for their Freedom and their...
Read moreIf you’re ever in Vukovar, you have to check out the Water Tower — it’s seriously impressive. Inside, there’s this cool multimedia setup that tells the story of the Homeland War in a really respectful way. You can either climb the stairs to the top (which is a bit of a workout) or take the lift for just 2 euros more — honestly, the lift is way more chill. The tower itself is super modern inside, but outside you can still see all the battle scars from the war, which makes it feel really real. Once you get to the top, the views are absolutely insane — you can see all of Vukovar and the Danube River stretching out. Definitely worth a visit if you want to soak in some history and...
