Weekend Getaway Destinations 🧳

Weekend Getaway Destinations 🧳 Charleston & Savannah 📝 Charleston is perfect for a weekend getaway! If you have extra time, adding Savannah to your itinerary makes it even better~ These two cities share similar food, vibes, and culture, but Charleston has more attractions to explore (like plantations and beaches), giving you more options to choose from 🌴. That said, their downsides are pretty obvious: the food is quite limited, and most dishes are fried—eating this way for a few days straight will leave you feeling totally (greasy and tired) 🥹. Plus, you might occasionally feel the weight of lingering historical legacies. But overall, both cities are totally worth visiting! Countless classic movies were filmed here, making them ideal for travelers who’ve already seen major tourist spots and don’t know where to go next, or those with short vacation time~ 🗓️ Recommended Duration: 2-3 days in Charleston and 1-2 days in Savannah is more than enough! Do NOT make the same mistake we did—we scheduled 6 days for both cities combined, and by the end, we were bored out of our minds with nothing to do 🥲. 🚞 Transportation Tips: Savannah’s attractions are super concentrated, so you can get around on foot easily. However, Charleston’s attractions are scattered—plantations and beaches are all 30-40 minutes by car from the downtown area. There are also direct buses between the two cities, with a 3-hour ride, but the downside is that there are few departures and fixed schedules, which isn’t very flexible 🚌. If possible, we highly recommend driving yourself! You can decide when to leave and how long to stay wherever you want—total freedom~ 📍 Must-Visit Attractions List Must-Go in Charleston 📍 Cypress Garden A classic filming location from The Notebook! However, there are very few boats available—we waited for 30 minutes to an hour before our turn~ It’s incredibly photogenic, but if you stay in one spot for too long, staff will come over to remind you not to hold up the line for others who are waiting to take photos 📸. 📍 Magnolia Plantation A filming location for Gone with the Wind! Besides this one, there are two other plantations, each with its own unique features—you can choose based on your preferences~ Wandering under century-old oak trees feels like stepping right into a movie scene 🌳. Must-Go in Savannah 📍 American Prohibition Museum The theme here is so interesting! It’s dedicated to telling the history of America’s Prohibition era. After your visit, you can head to the museum’s “speakeasy” (a hidden bar from the Prohibition days) for an experience that feels like traveling back to the time when people drank in secret 🍸. 📍 SCADstory An immersive experience that tells the founding history of SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design)—it’s a bit like a Disney ride! It wasn’t even on our original plan; we just went in to escape the sun and cool off, but it ended up being my favorite spot in Savannah ✨! After seeing it, I even joked that I regretted not studying art (just kidding, haha). Attractions to Choose From (Optional) 📍 Folly Beach It’s just an ordinary beach with nothing special about it—you can skip it if you’re short on time~ 📍 Old Slave Mart Museum The theme here is a bit heavy, but it explains Charleston’s history of slavery in a very clear and easy-to-understand way. If you’re interested in history, you can visit; if the topic makes you uncomfortable, feel free to skip it~ Additionally, spots like Rainbow Row in Charleston, Forsyth Park in Savannah, and the square where Forrest Gump was filmed don’t leave a deep impression after visiting. They’re the kind of places where you think, “Well, I’m already here, so I might as well check them out,” but they don’t deserve a top recommendation from us~ #charleston#savannah#EastCoastUSA#USATravel#WeekendGetawayGuide
