Weekly Mountain Hike | Reverse Route on LA's Strawberry Peak πβ°οΈ
This was my first proper hike with some intensity after spraining my ankle! π We tackled LA's famous Strawberry Peak, but via a combined route. We ascended via Colby Canyon and descended via the Red Box trail. π₯Ύπͺ The uphill path was relatively less crowded. While it wasn't a completely wild trail, we had to navigate several large rock sections. The rocks were sizable, requiring some scrambling and a bit of courage to overcome the exposure! π Thankfully, my hiking buddies were super reliable and determined β no one gave up, and the rope our leader brought wasn't even needed! π§βοΈβ¨ Have you ever had to scramble on a hike? How did you feel? I've always wondered why it's called Strawberry Peak β during the entire hike, I couldn't see anything resembling a strawberry! π One friend said you need an aerial view. Later, I asked the all-knowing ChatGPT, and apparently, early climbers thought it looked like an upside-down strawberry! π€·βοΈ Whatever the reason, there are definitely no real strawberries up there, so we brought our own snacks! π What's the strangest mountain name you've encountered? The descent was more gradual and is actually the main route most people use to climb Strawberry Peak. However, at one point, my thigh started cramping up, which was oddly more noticeable than my recovering ankle! π¬ Did some stretches, pushed through, and felt better by the bottom β maybe fighting fire with fire? π₯ What's your go-to method for dealing with cramps on the trail? Overall, Strawberry Peak is definitely a worthwhile hike in the Los Angeles area. The only big thing: there is virtually zero shade the entire way β it feels like a full-sun march! βοΈπ₯ Thankfully, autumn is coming soon, which should make hiking much more comfortable, right? π What's your favorite season for hiking? #California #OutdoorHiking #WeekendGoals #ModerateHike #HikingAdventures #DailyWriting #StrawberryPeak #LosAngelesHikes #SoCalHiking #TrailVibes #HikeLA #PeakBagging #Scrambling #AnkleRecovery #FallHiking #SunProtection #NatureLovers #ExploreCalifornia
